Duct silencers — the flanking path most ceilings forget
Heating and air ducting is often overlooked as a flanking path, sometimes reducing the effectiveness of a soundproofing design by up to 15%. Duct silencers are the best performing insertable option for privacy between rooms: at 60" long and under 10 lbs, they are a cost-effective, easy-to-install way to cut sound transmission from the fan motor and other airborne noise.
Silencers are compatible with rigid metal ductwork (round or square) and flexible ducting, and are sized to the diameter of the existing duct. Installation is a 60" cutout in the existing duct, insert the silencer, tape the joints, done. Typical uses: isolating home theater noise from adjacent rooms or upstairs, eliminating room-to-room crosstalk on shared office ducts, reducing fan noise from large commercial HVAC units, and stopping fan noise travelling down a main duct to downstream discharges.
