Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound (28-oz Tube)
Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is a viscoelastic damping layer applied between drywall sheets to dissipate vibration and quiet adjoining rooms. Not a construction adhesive — it functions as a Constrained Layer Damping (CLD) medium that converts sound-wave mechanical energy into low-grade heat by shearing under vibration, dramatically reducing sound energy across an assembly. The single 28-oz tube fits any standard bulk caulk gun and is sized for the recommended 2-tubes-per-4'×8' drywall sheet application rate.
- Damping over Blocking: Unlike high-mass barriers, Green Glue contributes damping to the assembly — reducing vibration by dissipating energy as low-grade heat instead of trying to reflect it.
- Double-Drywall Bundle: Most common and effective usage is a drywall sandwich: Drywall → Green Glue → Drywall. Adds meaningful STC/IIC gains on top of clips, channels, and mass layers.
- Proven & Low-VOC: Water-based, low-odor formula with third-party acoustic data — safe for occupied projects and compatible with common wall and ceiling assemblies.
- Non-Adhesive Reality: Easily mistaken for adhesive, but the compound retains its un-drying texture to keep dissipating vibration long-term — always use structural fasteners to attach the outer drywall layer.
