PAC International RSIC-SI-X 1.5 CRC

The RSIC-SI-X 1.5 CRC is a ceiling-only isolation clip used at the intersection of a 1-1/2 x 1/2 in, minimum 16 ga cold-rolled channel (CRC) above and a 7/8 in, 25 ga hemmed-edge drywall furring channel below. Its top clip snaps onto the CRC and is screwed tight, so the hanger wires and any vertical strut can stay hard-connected to the structure while the spring-and-rubber isolator decouples the lower furring channel and gypsum ceiling at every specified crossing. It ships pre-assembled and pre-calibrated, and it is not adjustable.

  • Attaches to the cold-rolled channel, not the structure: The top clip snaps onto the 1-1/2 x 1/2 in, minimum 16 ga CRC and is screwed tight to it. There is no generic wood, steel or concrete fastener schedule for this clip — the CRC and its wires and strut are what connect to the structure.
  • Spring and rubber in one calibrated unit: Each clip combines a coil spring with a rubber isolator, shipped pre-assembled and pre-calibrated. Total deflection is 0.5 in and the clip is not adjustable in the field.
  • 16 x 48 in maximum layout: Clips sit at a maximum of 16 in o.c. along the crossing grid, with CRC framing at a maximum of 48 in o.c. That grid is the same for one or two layers of 5/8 in gypsum board.
  • Colour-coded spring capacities: White 7 lb for edge, corner and infill where additional support is needed; Blue 13 lb for field and edge; Red 26 lb primarily for the field. The final colour schedule follows the project submittal.
  • A shallow CRC alternative — not a long-span product: Nominal minimum cavity is 3-1/2 in with no maximum. For heavier systems PAC directs you to increase the number of isolators and channel, not to overload a spring.

Making the connection

1 — Structure and anchors
Approved structure with anchors by others, suited to the substrate and the load at each hanger point
2 — Hanger wires and vertical strut
Hard-connected to the structure and to the suspended CRC — these stay rigid; the isolation happens at the clip below them
3 — Cold-rolled channel (CRC)
1-1/2 in wide x 1/2 in deep, minimum 16 ga, meeting or exceeding SSMA minimums
4 — RSIC-SI-X 1.5 CRC clip
Top clip snapped onto the CRC and screwed tight; spring and rubber isolator inside
5 — Drywall furring channel
7/8 in deep, minimum 25 ga with hemmed edge, 1-1/4 in top and minimum 2-1/2 in bottom width, snapped into the clip's lower part
6 — Gypsum board
Installed perpendicular to the furring channel with a minimum 1/4 in perimeter gap sealed with acoustical caulk

RSIC-SI-X 1.5 CRC Preliminary Ceiling Estimate

Built for ceilings. One clip goes at every specified crossing of the cold-rolled channel above and the 7/8 in furring channel below, so the count is CRC runs multiplied by clip positions. PAC's maximum layout is 16 x 48 in o.c., and it is the same for one or two layers of 5/8 in gypsum board.

Spring colour and load
White — 7 lb
Edge, corner and infill where additional support is needed
Blue — 13 lb
Field and edge
Red — 26 lb
Primarily field

Colours are pre-calibrated and are distributed across the ceiling — field, edge, corner and infill positions each carry a different tributary load, so the final colour schedule follows the PAC or project submittal rather than one colour everywhere. The 26 lb rating is the design load at 3/8 in deflection from free height; the family summary's 0.5 in figure is total deflection, a different reference condition.

Source note: PAC's submittal front page summarises the range as 7–25 lb, while the detailed capacity schedule and the spec guide's product limitations both list 7 / 13 / 26 lb. The detailed schedule is used here. Separately, the spec guide's "do not exceed 36 lb pull and shear" is a structural limit — never treat it as an allowable acoustic load. Both the spring rating and the structural limit must be satisfied.

FAQ

RSIC-SI-X 1.5 CRC — Common Questions

The top clip snaps onto a 1-1/2 x 1/2 in, minimum 16 ga cold-rolled channel and is then screwed tight to that channel. It is not fastened directly to joists, studs or concrete. The spec guide carries one generic sentence saying the clip fastens to the underside of the structure, but its own detailed instructions and the installation guide both describe the CRC connection, so that is what we follow.
