PAC International RSIC-1 BACKER
The PAC International RSIC-1 Backer is a heavy-duty resilient backing mount used inside a conventional RSIC-1 sound-isolated wall wherever substantial objects have to be attached. Two different jobs are involved, and they use different parts: RSIC-1 clips with their approved furring channel form the repeating grid that supports the gypsum board, while RSIC-1 Backer mounts fasten to the face of the wall studs at localized backing elevations and carry a separate steel backing track. That track — minimum 16-gauge steel, 6" wide and 1-1/4" deep — becomes the mounting surface for heavy items once the gypsum board is up. The Backer is not intended to secure gypsum board and it does not accept 7/8" hat or furring channel. PAC's own examples of what it supports include cabinets, chalkboards, projector screens, handicap grab bars, lockers, TV wall mounts, handrails and library shelves, in new construction or retrofit.
- The Problem It Solves: Screwing a cabinet, TV mount or grab bar straight through the isolated finish and into the studs rigidly ties the mounted item back to the structure. The RSIC-1 Backer gives that item its own resiliently mounted steel backing instead.
- Works With The RSIC-1 Wall — Not With Hat Channel: RSIC-1 clips and their approved furring channel still carry the gypsum board. The Backer is a separate, localized element: it does not accept hat or furring channel and is not intended for gypsum-board securement.
- Required Backing Track And Fastening: A steel backing track of minimum 16 gauge, 6" wide and 1-1/4" deep — meeting or exceeding SSMA minimum requirements — attaches over the Backers with four framing screws into each Backer (minimum 1/2" pan-head self-drilling framing screws).
- Standard Capacity And Layout: 108 lb acoustical design load per isolator on the standard model, with 3 mm total deflection (double deflection, 1.5 mm each). On walls, install a Backer on every stud crossed by the backing track, never more than 48" on center, with all Backers in a row in the same horizontal plane.

RSIC-1 Backer Preliminary Estimate
RSIC-1 Backer quantities are not estimated from wall square footage. A Backer is installed on every stud crossed by the planned steel backing track, with spacing never exceeding 48" on center, and every Backer carrying one track row must sit in the same horizontal plane.
An 8-foot run aligned stud to stud across 16"-o.c. framing crosses 7 stud locations (0, 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, 96 in), so one row uses 7 Backers and two rows use 14.
A backing run that crosses three studs uses 3 Backers per row — 6 Backers if the design calls for two track rows.
Preliminary material takeoff only. Final backing-track gauge, fasteners, bracket count, attachment layout and load capacity must be verified for the mounted item, framing, substrate, applicable codes and project-specific structural requirements.
