PAC International RSIC-ADAPT
RSIC-ADAPT is a ceiling-only vibration-isolation hanger for suspended ceilings. A foam isolator separates the finished ceiling grid from wood, steel, concrete, mass-timber or metal-deck structure. Side-mount and top-mount configurations allow it to support common ceiling systems — including CRC plus drywall furring channel, drywall grid and other approved carrier systems — while carrying up to 80, 120 or 160 lb per hanger depending on the selected isolator. It ships fully assembled and adjustable. PAC designs it for ceilings rather than walls, so when a resilient wall is part of the project, a wall-rated clip and its tested wall design are the right call there.

- Foam-based, not a coil spring: PAC's proprietary foam-based design delivers acoustical performance comparable to traditional spring isolators. "Spring performance" is a comparison, not the physical construction.
- Very small movement: Total deflection is less than 1/8 in — the 2026 guides describe roughly 1 to 2.5 mm below preset height once the ceiling is fully loaded. Natural frequency down to 12 Hz.
- 80, 120 or 160 lb versions: Acoustical design load is selected per hanger: light blue (260) up to 80 lb, blue (400) up to 120 lb, dark blue (650) up to 160 lb.
- Side or top mounting: RSIC-ADAPT-SIDE fastens to the side of wood joists/trusses or steel C-joists. RSIC-ADAPT-TOP suspends from concrete, metal deck or mass timber on 3/8-16 threaded rod.
- One family, many carriers: PAC's frame/adaptor system accommodates typical ceiling systems: drywall grid, 1 1/2 in CRC plus hat channel, Unistrut, and hat channel carried in RSIC clips. The lower adaptor must match the carrier you specify.
- New construction and retrofit: PAC lists both new construction and retrofit use. Ships fully assembled and adjustable, with elevation set in the field.

Making the connection
- Connection sequence
- Structure → RSIC-ADAPT side/top hanger → 1 1/2 in 16-ga CRC carrier → 7/8 in drywall furring channel → gypsum
- Carrier channel (CRC)
- 1/2 in × 1 1/2 in × 1/2 in, 16 ga, SSMA 150U050-54 — typically max 48 in spacing
- CRC connection
- Snaps temporarily into the ADAPT EZ clip, then permanently fastened with min 9/16 in self-drilling framing screws
- Drywall furring channel
- 7/8 in deep, 20-ga standard meeting or exceeding SSMA
- Furring channel width
- Bottom 2 9/16 in to 2 11/16 in · top 1 1/4 in
- Furring channel attachment
- Wire-tied, screwed, or attached with approved wire clips across the CRC
- Furring channel spacing
- Typically 24 in o.c. for one or two gypsum layers · 16 in o.c. for three layers, or closer as ceiling weight/span data requires
- Furring channel splice
- 6 in overlap at midspan — 18-ga tie wire or two 7/16 in framing screws
- Drywall grid alternative
- Main runners at max 48 in o.c.; verify span/load with SSMA, SFIA or manufacturer data
RSIC-ADAPT Preliminary Estimate
Built for ceilings. If you are treating a wall, a wall-rated clip and its tested design are the better fit — we can point you to one. Quantity comes off the real support grid, with isolator spacing at or under 48 in on center in both directions.
The final count comes off a reflected ceiling plan, not off area: plot the actual hanger positions at a maximum 48 × 48 in grid, keep carrier or main-runner spacing at or under 48 in, keep the first drywall support less than 8 in from the perimeter, and add hangers or blocking at openings, expansion joints, irregular boundaries and carrier span limits. Verify the span and load capacity of the CRC, drywall furring channel, drywall grid or Unistrut independently using SSMA, SFIA or manufacturer span data. The lower adaptor you order must match the carrier system selected above.
How RSIC-ADAPT compares
| Model | Primary Use | Isolation Element | Movement | Design Load | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RSIC-ADAPTthis | Ceiling-only suspended-ceiling hanger | Proprietary foam-based isolator | Less than 1/8 in total | 80 / 120 / 160 lb versions | Side or top mount; adaptors for CRC + hat channel, drywall grid, Unistrut, hat channel in RSIC clips |
| RSIC-SI-CRC EZ | Ceiling-only spring hanger for a 1 1/2 in CRC carrier | Calibrated coil spring | 1 in total deflection (double deflection ± 1/2 in) | Calibrated versions, 5 lb to 80 lb | Supports the CRC carrier grid; the furring channel crosses the CRC |
| RSIC-1 | Resilient clip for applicable wall and ceiling designs | Rubber isolator | Small rubber compression | Much lower per clip than a hanger | Receives 7/8 in drywall furring channel directly |
