PAC International RSIC-CWB HD/DD DC

The RSIC-CWB HD/DD DC is a 72 lb resilient brace for connecting adjacent wood- or steel-framed walls — or a secondary dropped-ceiling frame — to supporting framing without creating a rigid vibration bridge. Each steel end fastens to a different framing member; the central resilient connection provides heavy-duty, double-deflection isolation, while the DC version carries PAC's deflection-control designation. It is selected when two otherwise-separated framing systems need bracing — not simply because a wall is being soundproofed. It does not accept hat channel and does not carry drywall.

  • Framing to framing, not drywall to framing: One steel wing screws to the first wall's framing, the other to the adjacent wall's framing, and the resilient element in between keeps the two leaves from becoming a rigid pair. Gypsum stays on its own studs or on a separately specified isolation system.
  • 72 lb acoustical design load: PAC publishes a 72 lb per-isolator acoustical design load for both RSIC-CWB HD/DD and HD/DD DC. The standard RSIC-CWB is rated 36 lb.
  • HD / DD / DC decoded: HD is Heavy Duty, DD is Double Deflection, DC is Deflection Control. PAC lists total deflection of 3 mm with double deflection of 1.5 mm; movement criteria for a specific condition should be confirmed with PAC or your design professional.
  • Adjustable across the cavity: PAC lists the isolator as adjustable with a 2 in adjustment limit, over a listed cavity range of about 2 in minimum to 4 in maximum.
  • Shipped assembled and calibrated: The brace arrives fully assembled and calibrated; installation is fastening each end to its framing member with the approved screws.

Companion Component

Clip attachment

1 — First wall framing
One perforated steel wing screws flat to a stud or framing member in the first wall
2 — Deflection-control isolator
The central resilient element spans the cavity and keeps the two framing systems separated
3 — Second wall framing
The opposite wing screws to a framing member in the adjacent wall or secondary framed structure
Fasteners
Minimum 2 approved screws at each end — at least 4 per brace; nails are not permitted
Layout
Maximum 24 in horizontal × 48 in vertical, with the first and last rows within 8 in of floor and ceiling
Gypsum
Board stays on its own framing — the brace never receives hat/furring channel or carries drywall
Framing Brace Estimator

RSIC-CWB HD/DD DC Preliminary Estimate

This bracket braces one framing member to another, so the count comes off the bracing grid between opposing framing — not off drywall area. On walls PAC allows brace columns no farther than 24 in apart, rows no farther than 48 in apart, and the first and last rows within 8 in of floor and ceiling. This is a preliminary material takeoff only: the design professional decides whether resilient cross-bracing is required at all and whether the brace loads are acceptable.

Brace positions have to align with framing members that actually face each other across the cavity, so plot them on the framing plan before ordering. Exact framing and end locations can change the count. Brackets are fastened, not cut — there is no waste factor, only the optional ordering allowance above.

Preliminary material estimate — not a bracing design. Final positions must land on framing members on both sides, wall end rows stay within 8 in of floor and ceiling, and no cabinets, bookshelves or other heavy loads may hang on the braced framing. Nails are never permitted: wood takes a 1 1/4 in minimum coarse-thread screw, steel a #7 × 1/2 in minimum fine-thread screw, with PAC's stated minimum 25 ga (0.030 in) steel — verify that gauge/thickness pairing for your project. Each isolator is limited to a 72 lb acoustical design load; that is a validation check, never the count formula, and the standard RSIC-CWB is distinct from the 72 lb HD/DD and HD/DD DC models. Fire, seismic, structural bracing and load remain project-design responsibilities.

RSIC-CWB HD/DD DC — Common Questions

Framing to framing. One perforated steel wing screws to a stud or framing member in the first wall, the central resilient isolator spans the cavity, and the opposite wing screws to a framing member in the adjacent wall or secondary structure. It never receives a hat/furring channel and never carries gypsum directly — the drywall stays on its own studs or on a separately specified isolation system.
