PAC International RSIC-SI-FF-WRW

The RSIC-SI-FF-WRW is a ceiling-only, wire-hung full-frame spring-and-rubber isolator that holds wire below for a manufacturer-approved suspended drywall grid ceiling. Hanger wire carries it from the non-isolated structure above, and a second length of hanger wire drops from its lower eye nut to the grid. PAC lists it for ceilings, so it is best kept to ceiling work — a wall calls for a wall-rated system instead.

  • WRW means wire hung, wire below: PAC's guide: "RSIC-SI-FF WRW is a wire hung spring and rubber isolation system that holds wire for use with Drywall Grid Ceiling Systems." The first W is the wire-hung upper connection and the final W is the lower hanger wire to the grid. It does not mean wood-to-wood.
  • Wire above, wire below, grid underneath: Approved overhead structure or anchor by others → minimum 12 ga annealed galvanized hanger wire → upper eye nut through the rubber element of the full frame and spring → lower eye nut → minimum 12 ga lower hanger wire → approved suspended drywall grid → gypsum ceiling.
  • No EZ clip and no direct hat channel: The WRW has no lower CRC clip and 7/8 in hat/furring channel does not fasten to it. Where the lower member is cold rolled channel, specify the correctly configured CRC variant instead.
  • 10 to 80 lb, colour coded by capacity: White 10, Blue 20, Green 30, Red 40 and Silver 80 lb, each with a published 0.50 to 1.00 in nominal working deflection range in PAC's detailed selection table.
  • Not field adjustable: PAC lists Adjustable: No — the isolator has no integral adjustment screw. Ceiling elevation is set by the hanger-wire ties and grid levelling, allowing for the spring to compress as the gypsum goes up.

Making the connection

1 — Structure
Non-isolated overhead structure or substrate, with anchors by others approved for the substrate, the shear and the actual load
2 — Upper hanger wire
Minimum 12 ga annealed galvanized wire per local code, anchored to the non-isolated structure and tied through the upper eye nut
3 — RSIC-SI-FF-WRW
The full-frame spring and rubber isolator: the upper eye nut passes through the rubber element, the spring sits in the steel frame, and a second eye nut hangs below
4 — Lower hanger wire
Minimum 12 ga annealed galvanized wire tied to the lower eye nut and to the grid, set so the ceiling can lower as the springs compress under the board
5 — Drywall grid
Manufacturer-approved suspended drywall grid, installed to the grid manufacturer's instructions and kept clear of walls, columns and any non-isolated component
6 — Gypsum
Gypsum board on the grid, with a 1/8 to 1/4 in perimeter gap sealed with non-hardening acoustical caulk (fire and smoke rated where required)
Ceiling Isolator Estimator

RSIC-SI-FF-WRW Preliminary Estimate

Built for ceilings. Quantity and capacity are two separate checks: the plotted hanger layout sets how many isolators you need, and the dead load each position actually carries sets which calibrated capacity goes there.

Enter the complete ceiling dead load: the suspended drywall grid, every gypsum layer, damping compound and finishes, and anything the ceiling permanently carries. Two layers of 5/8 in board alone are roughly 5 lb per sq ft, which is about 80 lb on a full 4 x 4 ft field cell — the grid and finishes add to that. Where a position runs heavy, move to smaller tributary areas and closer hangers. Projectors, HVAC ducting, curtains and other unrelated heavy point loads are never carried by this ceiling; they need separately designed supports.

Preliminary Material Estimate
Isolators (with spares)30
Grid before spares30 isolators
Layout6 rows × 5 columns
Spacing used48 × 48 in o.c.
Wall quantity0 — ceilings only
Sanity check — area ÷ 16 sq ft320 sq ft → 20

That division is only a nominal maximum-grid check, never the count you order. The plotted rows × columns come from the reflected ceiling and grid layout: perimeter isolators must sit no more than 8 in from the edge of the isolated ceiling while keeping at least 3 in of clearance, so real rooms usually need more isolators than the division suggests.

Capacity check
Field tributary16.0 sq ft · 80.0 lb → Silver 80 lb
Edge tributary≈ 40.0 lb → Red 40 lb
Corner tributary≈ 20.0 lb → Blue 20 lb

Mixed capacities are normal: edge and corner positions carry a fraction of a field position, so never order the heaviest isolator everywhere. PAC's detailed table gives a nominal working deflection of 0.50–1.00 in for every capacity, while the family summary sheet lists 3 mm total and 1.5 mm double deflection; those are not the same figure, so verify the project submittal with PAC or your design professional if the difference matters. Capacity colour and rubber colour are different labels — White 10 and Blue 20 use blue rubber, Green 30 brown, Red 40 green, Silver 80 red.

Preliminary material estimate — not a final engineered reflected-ceiling plan. Final layout comes from the PAC installation guide, the drywall grid manufacturer's instructions, the project drawings and a qualified design professional; PAC requires a professional engineer for any non-standard room dimension, and anchors, hanger wire and the structure above all have to be checked for the load at each position. Spares are spare isolators, not a cut-waste allowance.
