PAC International RSIC-SI-WHI

The RSIC-SI-WHI is a ceiling-only, factory-calibrated spring hanger that mounts to the side of overhead framing. Hanger wire connects its lower loop to a 16-gauge CRC carrier system or an approved drywall grid, isolating the suspended gypsum ceiling with approximately 1 inch of total spring travel. PAC lists it for ceilings, so it is best kept to ceiling work — a wall calls for a wall-rated system instead.

  • Side-mounted to the framing: The bracket screws direct to the side of the joist. PAC's 2025 guide illustrates wood or steel framing, with a minimum 20 ga (0.030 in) steel joist; any other overhead condition needs a project-approved detail.
  • Hanger wire below, not hat channel: Hanger wire ties to the bottom loop and carries the 1.5 in 16 ga CRC carrier or an approved drywall grid. Nothing snaps onto this hanger and no furring channel fastens to it.
  • Shipped assembled and calibrated: Each hanger arrives pre-assembled and pre-calibrated. Do not rotate the spring assembly separately from its bracket — PAC warns that this can change the factory calibration.
  • About 1 in of spring travel: Total deflection is 1 in with double deflection of +/- 1/2 in, and PAC's guide says the finished elevation sits about 1/2 in below the preset height once the gypsum is up. Mount the system to allow for that settlement.
  • Colour-calibrated springs: The 2025 guide prints Silver 80, Red 40, Green 30, Blue 20, White 10 and Yellow 5 lb. Each position takes the spring calibrated for the weight it actually carries, so mixed colours across one ceiling are normal.

Making the connection

1 — Structure
Side of a wood joist, or a steel joist of minimum 20 ga (0.030 in)
2 — Fasteners
Wood: minimum #8 x 1-5/8 in coarse thread (PAC recommends #10 or #12 x 1-5/8 in hex head). Steel: minimum #8 x 1 in fine thread (PAC recommends #10 or #12 x 1 in hex head)
3 — RSIC-SI-WHI
The calibrated spring hanger, mounted so the ceiling can settle about 1/2 in under load
4 — Hanger wire
Tied to the bottom loop, sized per the wire manufacturer for the load at that position
5 — Carrier
1.5 in 16 ga CRC at 48 in o.c. in PAC's sample, or an approved drywall grid to its own manufacturer's requirements
6 — Furring channel
Where the CRC design is used: 7/8 in drywall furring channel crossing the carriers, minimum 25 ga hemmed edge or 20 ga standard, 24 in o.c. in PAC's sample
7 — Gypsum
Attaches to the furring channel or grid, with a 1/8 to 1/4 in perimeter gap sealed with acoustical sealant

RSIC-SI-WHI Preliminary Estimate

Built for ceilings — a resilient wall calls for a wall-rated system instead. Quantity and spring calibration are two separate checks: the plotted grid sets how many hangers you need, and the weight each position actually carries sets which colour goes there.

PAC's own worked example counts the gypsum only: two layers of 5/8 in Fire Code C at 2.5 lb per sq ft per layer is 5 lb per sq ft, which is 40 lb on a 4 x 2 ft tributary area and 80 lb on a 4 x 4 ft one. That example does not automatically include the CRC carriers, drywall grid, furring channel, insulation or anything else the ceiling permanently carries, so add those to the figure you enter here. Focused loads — projectors, ductwork, curtains, heavy fixtures — are never carried by this ceiling; they need separately engineered supports.

Layout6 rows × 5 columns
Spacing used48 × 48 in o.c.
Wall quantity0 — ceilings only
Sanity check — area ÷ 16 sq ft320 sq ft → 20

That division is only the nominal maximum-grid check. The plotted count is what you order.

Suspended system below the hangers: about 5 runs of 1.5 in 16 ga CRC carrier at 48 in o.c. and about 11 lines of 7/8 in drywall furring channel at 24 in o.c., with the first drywall support less than 8 in from each wall. Channel runs are a rough length check only.
Spring calibration check
Field tributary16.0 sq ft · 80.0 lb → Silver 80 lb
Edge tributary≈ 40.0 lb → Red 40 lb
Corner tributary≈ 20.0 lb → Blue 20 lb

Mixed colours are normal: PAC places Silver 80 lb in the field, Red 40 lb and Green 30 lb in the field and perimeter, Blue 20 lb at field, perimeter and edge, White 10 lb at edges, corners and infill, and Yellow 5 lb at edges and corners. Never order the heaviest spring everywhere.

Preliminary material estimate — not a final engineered reflected-ceiling plan. PAC requires a professional engineer for any non-standard room dimension, and the structure, its fasteners and the hanger wire all have to be checked for the load at each position. Spares are spare hangers, not cut waste.

RSIC-SI-WHI — Common Questions

It is made for ceilings. For a wall, a wall-rated system is the way to go. For a resilient wall, specify a wall-rated system such as the applicable tested RSIC-1 wall design.
