PAC International Clips

PAC International RSIC-1 Edge

The RSIC-1 Edge is used together with standard RSIC-1 clips, at the few positions where an RSIC-1 cannot be installed because there is no suitable framing face — the end of a furring-channel run, a channel running parallel to the framing at a wall/ceiling intersection, or a ceiling perimeter with no joist above. Its down-facing metal L bracket fastens tight to whatever structure is available, and its rubber isolator carries the furring channel in the same horizontal plane as the surrounding RSIC-1 clips. It is not installed continuously around every perimeter and it does not replace the RSIC-1 in the field.

  • Used with the RSIC-1, not instead of it: PAC's own guide calls it a clip 'for use in conjunction with the RSIC-1' where the standard clip cannot be installed due to a lack of mounting surface. The field quantity stays RSIC-1.
  • An exception count, never an area count: Mark the channel-run ends and positions with no framing face, and order one Edge per position. Five wall channel rows needing support at one end is five Edge clips.
  • Down-facing L bracket keeps the plane: The bracket mounts tight to the available structure or the wall top plate so the Edge channel grip sits in the same horizontal plane as the RSIC-1 clips on the joists.
  • Walls and ceilings: PAC lists use on walls: yes and use on ceilings: yes, in wood, steel, CMU or concrete systems that already use RSIC-1 clips.
  • 18 lb per isolator: Maximum acoustical design load is 18 lb. Check the tributary load of the furring, gypsum layers and finishes at each Edge position — no cabinets, bookshelves or unrelated loads.
  • Fixed 1-5/8 in cavity: The specification table lists Adjustable: No, cavity minimum and maximum both 1-5/8 in, so the Edge lines up with the RSIC-1 it works alongside. It is not field height-adjustable.

Yes
Use on ceilings
Yes
Upper connection
Down-facing metal L bracket fastened tight to the available framing, structure or wall top plate
Isolation
Rubber isolator · double deflection yes (1.5 mm) · total deflection 3 mm
Lower connection
Compatible 7/8 in, 25 ga hemmed-edge drywall furring channel, snapped in perpendicular or parallel to the framing per the approved detail

Spacing note
The installation guide states maximum 48 in o.c. perpendicular to the joist/truss; a separate submittal spec line reads maximum 24 in o.c. These are the two axes of the same grid — project drawings and the RSIC-1 layout control
Adjustable
No — fixed cavity, not field height-adjustable
Cavity
1-5/8 in minimum and maximum, aligning with the RSIC-1
Dimensions (installation guide)
Approximately 3 in wide x 5-1/2 in long x 1-1/2 in deep — the submittal drawing carries other partial dimensions; verify against the current detail

Interior use only, 40–100 °F (4.4–37.8 °C)
Furring channel splices
Minimum 6 in overlap at mid span between clips — never on a clip — with two 7/16 in framing screws or double-wrapped 18 ga tie wire
Perimeter
Leave a 1/4 in gap around the perimeter for acoustical sealant; fire-rated sealant and UL detail where required
Companion Component

7/8 in
Width — top
1-1/4 in
Width — bottom
2-9/16 to 2-11/16 in minimum per the installation guide
Alignment
Edge channel grip is kept in the same horizontal plane as the RSIC-1 clips on the framing

RSIC-1 Edge preliminary count

The Edge is only used where a standard RSIC-1 has no framing face to mount to — the end of a furring-channel run, a channel running parallel to the framing at a wall/ceiling intersection, or a ceiling perimeter with no joist. Count those positions; every other support point on the same runs stays a standard RSIC-1. Wall or ceiling area never sets this number.

Worked example

Five horizontal furring-channel rows on a wall, each with one end where no stud face is available: five RSIC-1 Edge clips. If both ends of every row are unsupported it is ten. On a ceiling, count the actual channel ends and perimeter positions with no joist — normally one Edge per affected run end.

Support schedule from the submittal: 24 x 48 in o.c. for one layer of 5/8 in gypsum and 24 x 24 in o.c. for two layers, with more isolators for heavier systems. The installation guide adds a maximum 48 in o.c. perpendicular to the joist or truss, and a separate submittal spec line reads maximum 24 in o.c. Those are the two axes of the same grid — the project drawings and the RSIC-1 layout control which applies where.

FAQ

RSIC-1 EDGE — Common Questions

Use it at the exception positions in an RSIC-1 job: the end of a furring-channel run with no framing face, a channel running parallel to the framing at a wall/ceiling intersection, or a ceiling perimeter where no joist is available. Do not use it as the field clip, do not run it continuously around every perimeter as a matter of course, and do not use it to carry heavy loads such as cabinets or bookshelves.
